Telecom sector problems coming to an end: PM


Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said the problems facing India's troubled telecom sector are nearing a solution and the new policy being brought in would address concerns of worrying investors, providing a new impetus for growth of the communications industry.

TRS is a secular party, but achieving Telangana by any means our priority


Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA T Harish Rao stated in the Legislative Assembly on Sunday that his party was secular since its inception and would remain so in future too.

Responding to MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi's suggestion to TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao for not joining the BJP-led NDA, the TRS MLA said that the TRS has always been a secular party. He said KCR was known for his secular credentials and the TRS too has remained secular since its inception.

IK Gujral Former Prime Minister passes away


Former Prime Minister I K Gujral, who headed a rickety coalition government in the late 1990s, died on Friday after a brief illness.

Gujral, 92, breathed his last at 3.27 PM in a private hospital after a multi-organ failure. He was admitted to the hospital on November 19 with a lung infection, family sources said.

The former Prime Minister, who was ventilator support, had been unwell for sometime. He was on dialysis for over a year and suffered a serious chest infection some days ago.

He will be cremated in nearby Delhi tomorrow.

Gujral, who migrated from Pakistan after partition, rose to become the Prime Minister with a big slice of luck after he came up through the ranks - starting as Vice President in NDMC in the '50s to later become a Union Minister and then India's Ambassador to the USSR...Read More

Egypt’s judiciary rejects request to send Mubarak to military hospital


Egyptian judiciary has rejected a request made for transfering country’s former president Hosni Mubarak from prison hospital to a military hospital, Xinhua reported.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lead the state for the third successive term, with an increased number of seats, says the opinion poll conducted by ABP News and AC Nielsen in October.

The opinion poll conducted all over Gujarat has projected 124 seats for the BJP, seven more than the 117 it won in the 2007 assembly election.

Aam Admi Party - Kejriwal names political outfit 'Aam Admi Party'


Arvind Kejriwal named his new political outfit the Aam Admi Party at a meeting here Saturday of around 300 founder members, a supporter said. The Congress objected to the name saying "aam aadmi" was its plank.

The member, who did not wish to be named, said the party's name was proposed by activist Mayank Gandhi and Chandramohan.

Ahead of the meeting he told reporters outside the venue, Kejriwal said: "This party is for common men, women and children of the country, who are tired of politicians."

"We will form a national executive for running the party and also discuss some 25-30 important issues," he said.
The Congress objected to the choice of the party's name, saying the slogan of "aam aadmi" has long been linked to the Congress...Related News

Andhra teacher makes student drink urine? Probe begins


Authorities in Andhra Pradesh have launched an investigation into allegations that a teacher in a private school allegedly made a five-year-old student drink urine.

An official of the education department at Anaparthy 'mandal' (block) in East Godavari district of coastal Andhra region began a probe into the incident amid contradictory versions over what happened at the Satyabhama Primary School.

CBI court summons BS Yeddyurappa in graft case

A CBI special court has issued summons to former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, his kin and others in a graft case related to a mining scam case during his tenure from 2008 to 2011, said a senior official on Wednesday.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge Venkata Sundarshan, who issued the summons on November 16, directed Yeddyurappa, his sons BY Raghavendra and BY Vijayendra, son-in-law RN Sohan Kumar, former minister Krishnaiah Shetty and eight others, including chief executive and vice-president of a steel company in Bellary to appear in court on December 10.

Raghavendra is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha member from Shimoga, about 260 km from here, and the home town of Yeddyurappa.
